“Okay, so here's a proposal for helping solve some of the state's budget problem. We all know that there's been a trend lately for juries to award massive, massive millions of dollars to victims and the formula that is meant to punish the perpetrator more than just compensate the victim. Now I'm all in favor of punishing the perpetrators of <i>anything</i> to the fullest extent that will make them hurt enough to not do it again, but I am totally against shoving all of that money into the hands of the victim and the victim's lawyers when it's far, far more than either those attorneys or the victims need in the way of full compensation. So let's do this, let's let the judges divide the award so that the victim gets compensated a reasonable amount and then some, that the attorneys get a percentage of the victim's compensation amount and the rest goes to the State's general fun.
