They go to Costco anyway. And Safeway.

The plan was to sleep in, so I did, and I spent about an hour watching videos in bed on the tablet. Spook joined me a few times, getting closer than ever, and letting me pet her longer than ever before, but don't get too excited we're only talking in seconds here. She is scared of my hand. I experimented with holding it different ways, but did not find any angles which consistently allowed me to pet her. But it's progress, which I had given up on having any of.

Had to skip brushing my teeth this morning on account of not having a toothbrush. Showered and did all the other morning things, though. In fits and starts.

Watered all the indoor plants as usual, though this is the first Saturday I've been home to do it in 3 weeks. Put on a jacket and shoes and watered the lime trees on the porch, and the three fuchsias. The original lime tree is sprouting more blossoms, and the tiny limes continue to grow. A month ago they were the size of BBs, now they are like about twice that size. I can't think of anything twice the size of a BB.

Plan A was go to Costco and get a replacement membership card. Got there, and there was no parking, and the vultures were blocking aisles with their flashers on, and people were parking in red zones. I'm pretty sure after careful research that the Santa Clara, Mountain View and Sunnyvale Costco parking lots were designed by Salvadore Dali on an inspiration from Alcatraz, and implemented by CalTrans.

I just turned around and left.

Next stop, Rite Aid for swimmer's ear drops, on the theory that maybe those would help quell the noises my left ear makes which sounds a lot like rushing water. And eye drops - 1 oz bottles which seem to only be offered by the drug stores' generics. Everyone else charges the same $ for 1/2 oz. They also had the 8-packs of peppermint Breathsavers, which are getting harder to find, and are always on my list.

Walke next door to Safeway when I realized I was out of bananas for next week's breakfasts. Also got a jar of herring in sour cream, to replace the one I finished the other day. Almost picked up a 10-pack of hamburger patties for $5, until I put my glasses on, and looked more closely to find that there was no price listed for the patties, the $5 was for sausages in next 3 rows.

Home, started watching the KC/Texas game. I usually FF through the half hour of pregame crap, but this time they were actually going to show the SSB, sponsored by some USO-like group. I have two friends who sing it for some of the local big league games, and I like to compare, because they are excellent, and sing it the way it was meant to be sung.

Here it is. Tori Kelly, doing it the right way, with an octave change at the end which is jaw-dropping, while not hurting the intent of the anthem:

The game started with a 10-3-yard kickoff return for a KC touchdown, and when it was 10-0 I paused the playback and went to MV to meet Janice for coffee. We had 2 holioday weekends to catch up on, and she'll be traveling for the next 2 so there was much to talk about. I arrived 20 minutes early, as usual, mostly to find a place for us to sit. Waiting for their drinks was what looked like a women's yoga club. I have no idea who they were, but each of the 6 wore stretch pants over really fit butts. And wedding rings. They were gone by the time J showed up. But the stream of eye candy continued for the 2 hours we were there.

Home, took a load of laundry from the dryer and put another in, and put some sheets in the washer.

Instead of watching the rest of the KC game, I joined the recording of the Steelers/Bengals game still in progress. Horrible game. Massive amounts of unsportsmanlike conduct, and not nearly enough discipline enforcement by the officials. There were at least three incidents which called for ejections, but the refs waved them off. I know NFL refs are part-time, I guess their other job is guarding national wildlife refuges.

Both teams played sloppily. With less than 2 minutes to go, the Bengals had a 2-point lead and the ball, and all they had to do was hold onto it, manage the clock, and they would win. Instead they ran a high-risk play and coughed the ball up. That wasn't too bad, it left Pitts with 60 yards to get to the field goal kicker's range. A string of stupid penalties, one of which was questionable, got the ball right where the kicker wanted it, and the Steelers won.

That out of the way I FFed through the KC game, where the Texans showed why they didn't belong there. 30-0 at home. The only good thing about the game for Texas was the national anthem, and the fact that the crowd cheered three times during it as Tori hit all the hard parts with ease. I see on FB she has done this many times before. She's up for a newbie Grammy, I should check out her music.

Late lunch was pita & hummus & lox. Dinner was battered fish fillets, spanikopita and mixed veggies. Mango chunks for dessert. And the last of the egg nog.

Plans for tomorrow:
Veg
Seahawks-Vikings game at 10:45, I'll probably start playback on Tivo at 11:30.
I forget what the afternoon game is.
Probably should watch one of the 4K DVDs. And maybe the episode of Elementary which is on the Tivo.

Almaden Cosco parking sucked, but the store was actually pretty reasonable for a Sunday afternoon once I got parked. And about 10 minutes after I got in the store, it had almost emptied out, no lines at the checkers. But that didn't last long.
