There are people I miss who are on LJ as names only

mastersantiago's birthday is today. His last LJ post was in 2010. My only contacts with him were through someone who also hasn't been here since then. I miss Master S., his wife was the producer for a Lyric theater show I was in, late 2011, and that's the last I've heard of him. I hope he had a fine day, full of magic.

Happy birthday too to someone who would be a major crush if she wasn't married when I met her. britgeekgrrl got a mention at basfa tonight, good news wrapped in bad. Her father has published a book, which is good news, the timing is heartbreaking, especially knowing her past tragedy. She hasn't been on here since late 2012. Anyway, my heart goes out to her.

Typical Monday at work, except I was there by 9 am. And except someone upstairs hijacked my test machine and destroyed a test which was supposed to run all weekend. When I sent email asking who was using the machine, the hijacking immediately stopped, but he didn't have the integrity to fess up, let alone apologize.

Scheduled a demo for tomorrow afternoon for my team to explain how the demo room is set up.
Left at 5:30, home in 15 minutes. BASFA meeting was not a full house, but was more rowdy than usual. There's a new waitress in the main section (we have someone else dedicated to our meeting room) who is pretty hot for 50+. She doesn't really need all the eye makeup, especially the false eyelashes. Nice smile, though.

I only got in one pun, and not till the last minute. My auction items went for reasonable prices.

Home, tried to puzzle out how to make a PAL DVD from an NTSC source. Probably have to convert the source. No time tonight for that.

Plans for tomorrow:

Running Battles

Am having a running battle with lemmozine on FB and here about the chronologically challenged people flooding into the US without parents or papers.

He is all about being good to the children, and I believe he has a greatly exaggerated concept of the dangers they are escaping. I have a greatly exaggerated concept of how these things should be done legally.

We share a heritage of grand and/or great-grandparents being kicked out of their homes by fascist governments who really were killing them what did not scoot fast enough. All of these folks found ways to enter the United States legally, despite racist government quotas, anti-semitic bosses, poverty, and questionable hygiene.

I have no problem with the color of their skin, their religion, their place of birth or their questionable hygiene. I have a problem with their parents not having the guts to come with them. I have a bigger problem with their parents not finding a legal way into the country. It costs far less to apply for a visa than it does to hire smugglers. About 10% of the cost per person. If they are truly refugees, there is a pathway to claim that status and bring the whole family.

But bigger than that, I have a problem with their own countries not fixing the problems they are trying to run away from.

lemmozine is thinking of the children, and I admire that. I am also thinking of the children, but in the long term.
