January 6th, 2016

Got to bed before midnight. Once again woke up just before the alarm. Took about 3 pee breaks overnite.  No snacks to pack, was at work before 9. Did a lot of actual work with closed captions and learned yet another analyzer which I'd never heard of before.

Home at 12:30, should have made lunch but got distracted with lots of little things. Eventually opened a jar or sour cream herring and poured a glass of diet ginger ale and brought them to the computer. Did some actual work, found some bugs which were not owned by anyone and verified they were fixed. IT Guy had marked one of my tasks as completed, but he didn't mark down what line on the 200+ line video switch he had used. So that was useless.

BestBuy driver called at 2:20 to say he was 15 minutes away, arrived at 3. This was the same driver who delivered the freezer, but he had a different helper (more brains, less brawn). They got it all right, took back the Westinghouse TV and its accessories, installed thre stand on the Samsung, put it in place, plugged in the power & HDMI and packed out the box. Done by 3:30.

Spook holed up in the bedroom closet. I had closed the bedroom door just in case as soon as I knew she was in there.

Did the setup on the TV, re-programmed the Logitech remote and for some strange reason when I called up the Amazon Fire, the TV kept switching the HDMI3. Weird because only HDMI1 was plugged in. I had to add a command at the end of all the routines to punch in HDMI1, except for the one to watch from the antenna.

What I was hoping for happened, the Samsung has no problem with FF/REW/Play on the Tivo at 4K resolution. It also fires up way faster than the Westinghouse.

The 4K upscaling also looks noticeably better on the Samsung. So it's a WIN.

There are not a lot of broadcast channels coming into the antenna, but what's there is HD and a very sharp picture, except for KQED_Kids, which is SD over HD and looks horrible.

Watched PTI, FFed through Bold and Beautiful to make sure my heart throb was no longer there. Dinner was pot roast & mashed, Boston Market frozen. Mini snickers for dessert. And now egg nog.

Watched Galivant. Season 2 opener, and once they were done patting themselves on the back for not getting canceled, it was pretty good. They overdid the cell phone signal bit.

Called Marilyn by mistake trying to see when the BestBuy driver had called, I thought I hung up in time, but no, she called back, so we talked even though it was past her bedtime.

Plans for tomorrow:
Manicure - need them to yank what's on there and start from bare nail. It's way too thick.

Fun with webcams

Moved my cat cams around a bit. Took the one from the laundry room (there because cats used to wait for me by the back door) and put it in the guest room, where Spook often sleeps & parks in the window to stare at the neighbors. Took another one out of its box, and mounted it on the kitchen counter where it has a good view of the front bay windows, another Spook haunt. The other kitchen cam's view of the bay windows got blocked by the freezer, but it also looks at the side windows in the piano room where Spook has a cat tree and the new tube stand. Decided it was overkill to put another cam in the office to peek under the table where she is sleeping in a cat bed right now. There's already one above the table looking at her tallest cat tree and window looking over the carport.

Which means I need to update the webcam, page on my web site.

Working From Work

Back into the office today, helped Automation Guy discover the joys of his new dual monitor platform which allows him to either sit or stand. It was working fine when the installer left, but by afternoon he had managed to break it, so now gravity wins, it doesn't lock into place. Me & team lead contributed some tools, but he really needs to call for repair.

Needed to find a video feed with WSS  (Wide Screen Signaling) and IT Guy was under the mistaken impression that every feed had that, so he closed my ticket. I assured him that it was rare, and spent a couple of hours proving to myself that none of our network feeds had it.

Lunchtime I had my nails done big-time. They were getting way too thick, so we soaked my fingers in nail polish remover for about half an hour, and then she Dremeled a layer off, then 5 minutes more to soak, and repeat about 5 times. Then apply a single layer of acrylic and a thin layer of UV-cured top coat. Went across the street and had tempura at Yo Yo Sushi. The staff is as yummy as the food. Was down to my last Yuppie Food Stamp, got a refill from the CU ATM.

Offshore Automation Guy overheard me talking to IT Guy, and said he knew where there was a WSS feed on the SDI switch, which is what I needed. Found it after two tries, and now I am set to run 4 test cases.

Home, almost stopped at Costco, but it would only be for a couple of items so not worth it.

Was woken up at 4 am by heavy rain, maybe also hail, which lasted about half an hour. Looked outside, and the storm drain culverts hardly had any water in them. It sounded like a lot of rain, but NOAA's stats site said only 0.78" from midnight to 8 am. The predicted 5" for Wine Country only pegged at 1.13".

At home, watched PTI, deleted some obsolete scheduled recordings --what happened to The Magicians? One and Done? :-( and Shark Tank.
Plumber texted asking if I still needed them to come out tomorrow, I replied yes. Plumber texted asking if 8 or 8:30 was okay (original window was 9-1) I said 8:30 would work.

Watched too many minutes of American Pickers. One of the stupidest programs on TV, but somehow it always grabs me.

Ran Quicken, once again it could not connect with the CU. It took me 5 minutes to find the download button on the CU site. My rent check does not appear to ave made it to the bank. Usually they deposit it on the 3rd, and it's pending by the 4th. This month the first bank day was the 4th, but it still should have been there tonight.

Dinner was Select frozen Thai coconut chicken dinner. Ding dongs for dessert. And peanuts.

Plans for tomorrow:
Plumber at 8:30
Work from home if plumber can get the job done tomorrow. I'm expecting it to require a new toilet, and some under the house work.
And he can look at the fridge's freezer compartment to see if that's really an icemaker, or just the base for one.
Costco (?)
