I will spring forward tomorrow

I used to enjoy going around at 2 am changing all the clocks. I had a lot of them. Then there was a period when most of my clocks were internet radios, which set themselves, but the company discontinued them and stopped providing the streaming service.

Now that Congress has left DST alone for a while, my computers all set themselves, cell phone too. Most of my clocks have a DST switch. Not the oven or the microwaves. I'll find out in the morning if the Leaf switches. The Ford did not - it defaulted to the GPS setting, Universal Standard Time which I had to fix manually.

There is a good chance that this will be my last change. CA, OR, WA and BC have legislation pending to lock in Daylight time. Congress does too but the Republicans will block it.

Breakfast subbed fig bars for egg because I ran out of HB eggs, didn't want to boil more, didn't feel like cooking up best of eggs. It was almost 11 before I ate anything - got caught up watching storm chasers. There were two who were headed for tornado country, but they got their map readings wrong and never made it. No tornadoes anyway.

Car was down to half a charge, so I drove out to the tech center garage to try the Blink chargers. It was a mess - there was one of those phony recruiting events, and the coneheads were out in force, keeping traffic from where I needed to go. Got to the fast charger machine and it was broken. The half-fast charger wanted a code scanned, and 59 cents an hour. My card is supposed to be enough, and it's supposed to be free.

So, back to GO and plugged in there. I needed sweetened condensed milk and 2% milk, and also got some beef franks.

Too cold to wait in the car so Specialty's for a pecan bun and OJ.

Home, returned a text from Marcus. He's a twin, and had built his sister a PC but when he moved it to her room the display stopped showing the boot-up or anything else. Phoned him, but he was away from home when he texted, said he would call when he got home. He's about 12, pretty sharp.

Did some online stuff. BofA killed my auto-transfer from the EDD card when I activated the new one, so I had to do it by hand and set up auto again.

Made a salad, heated up pizza, started watching The Orville and was right at the "shoot him!" point when Marcus called.

I wasn't much help, except it sounds like part of the problem is he had HDMI on the motherboard but also installed an HDMI graphics card, which is totally a waste for his sister's needs. He'll pull that and try building from scratch again. PIA but he's already done all the troubleshooting I would have done. It had been working, just moving it to another room should not have borked it.

The Orville somehow made it through an entire episode without a gay rights theme. It could actually have been a legit Star Trek episode.

Lamyay for dessert.

Did not go to the auction. I was there for tables and rugs, got those, I'm done.

When Marcus texted I was about to go for a massage.

Plans for tomorrow:
Change clocks
Massage?
Janice Starbucks - Mountain View
Take out the garbage
Probably will be tornado chasers on Twitch to watch

Clocks R Me

As advertised, I stayed in bed well after the 7:30 alarm (which was sprung forward because it was on Google Home which automagically set the time by itself). After maybe an hour, Spook jumped on the bed, navigated the thin strip between me and the edge, and started chewing on the tablet's cable. Pretty much in my face. She wanted treats but had to wait for me to do my morning routine.

Breakfast was a Swiss cheese soufflè and a banana.

Went around to all the clocks: Read more...Collapse )

Not much happening online, no significant email, no job prospects. Did my old work routine of reading news from Canada, AP, BBC, Bangkok and the three local affiliated TV stations. There is a San Francisco station which lost its network affiliation years ago, and has become a sloppy local version of HLN. I ignore them.

TWC was predicting dire weather but not for today.

Large dark clouds all day, got rained on a little. Some neighborhoods south of me got hail, Mt. Hamilton got snow.

On Tivo, White Water Gold, as I predicted, fell way short of its goal, and after much angst moved to an even less accessible site where they fought underwater trees to find a few ounces. They are done for the season, the next episode is the reunion in the studio where they all tell us how effed up they were. One person with a degree in mining engineering would have saved their butts.

Watched the finale of that fashion design show which placed three designers and a bunch of models on the runway in NY Fashion week. There was a lot of talent, even some items women might actually wear. I did not stay to see who won because it didn't matter. All of them will probably get enough notice to boost their careers.

Lab results came in, they were even worse than last time. Cardiologist is concerned. BP is better for the most part.

Watched a lot of video on the NFL site because the Raiders picked up a troublemaker from the Steelers who has been trying to get traded for months. I'll be interested to see tomorrow what the PTI boys make of the trade. Pittsburgh eats a lot of cash in the deal and gets a couple of poor draft picks. Oakland gets someone Carr can pass to.

Was reminded on FB that what used to be my favorite sci-fi con is the weekend after next. I seem to have missed it last year. I think I was in the hospital. Oh wait, I just had the pacemaker installed and the idiot cardiologist advised against singing. The wires needed a chance to scar over.

I think my favorite filker is the GoH.  Or it could be someone with the same very common name. Anyway, I'll go. I may even go that Friday.

Got to MV *$s half an hour early but there was noplace to sit indoors so I bought an OJ and went outside. 15 minutes later the 47 people who had crowded into the front seats were gone, so I claimed a table. Janice arrived at 5.

GO on the way home, frozen corn, Banquet chicken, sliced black olives, marinated artichoke hearts and mochi.

Home, made a salad, nuked some pizza and watched the AAF football game. Mostly FFed through it, low scoring.

Online, a streamer I follow in Vegas was showing several other Twitch streamers around, from all over the country. It looked like fun, wish I could have been there. I probably could have, but am stuck in this job hunt rut. And I'd rather be there in better weather.

Took out a lot of garbage, did a dishwasher load.

Plans for tomorrow:
Job hunt
Whatever
