Cleanup

After the usual morning stuff, and verifying none of the storms were being chased, it was time to address some of the stuff on the annual inspection sheet from the park. They wanted the driveway power washed, which is a crock - there is no reason to do that unless they want it clean enough to eat off. I'm chalking that instruction up to their incorrect assumption that I park oil-dripping cars there. The driveway did need some cleaning, so I hosed it down, got most of the leaves off which had jammed into corners and against the sides. Cleaned the dirt out of all the cracks and seams. There is some algae growing on the ramp, I should see if Lowe's or Home Despot has something I can splash on that.

Next item was also bogus - weeding. I'd been weeding all month, yesterday when they inspected there were none left, I think they don't know a California poppy when they see a bunch of them growing like weeds.

Clean off the steps and walkway - that did need to be done. Mostly dried exploded poppy seed pods and leaves from the dogwood across the street. My broom did not do an adequate job on the carpeted steps, I got closer with the dust buster, but I should try my real vacuum, though it is not designed for steps. I don't have a working outdoor a/c outlet on that side of the house (long story) so would have to shut Spook into a room and open the front door, run the cord from the piano room.

So much for the inspection notes.

Indoors, replaced fairly new batteries in the kitchen indoor/outdoor temp/humidity station and it started picking up the outdoor sensor again. Measured each of the three original batteries and they were each down about 1/8. Should not have made a difference.

The "meh" Duncan Hines chocolate cake & icing was fed into the disposal. I may or may not try something from scratch.

Spook slept on the bed most of the night. She wandered back to the floor of the guest room, but in the morning when I went in and petted her she came back to the bed. Later she sunned herself on the bedroom window sill which has the not-open window. Hmmm. I wonder if the pheromone diffuser on the other side has outlived its usefulness.
Watched some Roy Rodgers. Both were early episodes before Dale Evans was married to him. In the first one she ran a cafe, the second she owned a ranch somewhere near Roy's.

No real lunch, just a Kind bar. Did a load of laundry - shirts. Spook helped.

Finally got off my butt and into the car. Drove around to the other side of 101 and found what I think was the site of the fireworks display - a school with a huge park behind it. No trees, lots of open space and public access to the paved sports courts. Acres of room to set off serious fireworks, and in the right direction and distance.

Continued on from there, settled into the Bat Cave Starbucks by Lucky's. I call it that because a couple of years ago for about a year the strip mall was putting up new facades, and had scaffolding and boards up around the outside & door, making it cave-like. After seeing that there were tables free with a nearby outlet, I got the laptop from the car and sipped on a chocolate cookie crumble frapp. I did not last long - there was zero eye candy, and the air con was freezing.

Home, put the shirts away and ironed about a dozen Hawaiian ones. I should probably Goodwill half of those.

Been exchanging messages on FB with someone I had a huge crush on, who married, had a kid, and I haven't heard from her since - until a couple of months ago when she messaged that her son was in college down here, and she was planning to visit. She lived in Toronto, we met first when I went to Hamilton for an IRC chat party, and then again in winter of 2000 when the company I was working for sent me to Toronto to teach a class. Anyhow, she wants to know if she can visit when she's here. Of course she can. If I'm still here. She's talking October.

Dinner was a crap shoot. Mini beef meatballs and mixed veggies microwaved, then poured onto a couple of slices of sourdough rye with mustard and swiss cheese. Acceptable sandwich. Lamyay for dessert.

Plans for tomorrow:
Job hunt
Vacuum the front steps. Maybe the carport steps too - easier because there's an outlet on that side.
Lowe's - algaecide. I bet they have it in the pool supplies.
Bring in the garbage bins as they are collected.
Look in Nancie's Southern Cakes book for something very chocolate. I have flour, eggs and milk. Maybe need a GO stop for icing
