Light News Day

Despite the winds of change blowing through the country, California voters overwhelmingly chose to return their incumbents to Congress, regardless of party. The only incumbent in the state who was voted out of office was Richard Pombo, who was narrowly defeated by Jerry McNerney in the gerrymandered district which snakes down the east Bay from Tracy.

And the numbers were overwhelming. Nancy Pelosi snagged EIGHTY PERCENT of the votes cast in her constituency, despite having three opponents. Here is the list of winners, and what percentage they received:

I did not include the Doolittle (incumbent)/Brown race because nobody won a clear majority (Doolittle received 49%)

There was no incumbent in the race McCarthy won so handily.
