That Was Then, This Is Now

Something susandennis posted reminded me that I've been meaning to post a snippet about the cast photo shoots for Man of La Mancha. In the Sunnyvale 2000 production, we were all lined up in a V on the raked stage (raked means the stage floor is higher at the back of the stage than it is at the front) in our peasant outfits, looking very ragged and waiting for the photographer to get set up. Someone started singing, softly, the finale from Les Miserables "Can you hear the people sing, singing the song of angry men..." and one by one we joined in till the whole cast was in full voice, with harmony. The director tried to stop us, but it was just too funny, and we sooooo looked the part.

Last week's photo shoot, we were posed at the foot of the stage, standard group portrait mode, not particularly looking in character. Our leading man starts singing the theme from the Patty Duke Show (We're cousins, identical cousins...). Many of us older folks joined in, but not too many of us knew the words. I knew most of them, but not in the order in which they are supposed to be sung. The director tried to stop us, but there's no stopping Don Quixote & Sancho.
