There are a lot of ballot measures in CA this year, and while I am undecided on the Presidential election, I am very decided on the statewide issues. Here is the official recommendation on those from the League of Howeird Voters:
Proposition 1 :
SB 1856 Safe, Reliable High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century.
Yes! And if a ballot comes up to add the Altamont Pass route to the plan, vote for that too.
Proposition 2 :
1274. Treatment of Farm Animals. Statute.
No. Creates a bloated bureaucracy.
Proposition 3 :
Children’s Hospital Bond Act. Grant Program. Statute.
No. 20% earmarked to UC? Wrong!
Proposition 4 :
1287. Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minor’s Pregnancy. Constitutional Amendment.
No! Just say no.
Proposition 5:
Nonviolent Offenders. Sentencing, Parole and Rehabilitation. Statute.
No. **
Proposition 6 :
Criminal Penalties and Laws. Public Safety Funding. Statute.
No.**
Proposition 7 :
Renewable Energy. Statute.
No. Wolf in sheep's clothing.
Proposition 8 :
Limit on Marriage. Constitutional Amendment.
No. The State needs to keep out of the marriage business.
Proposition 9 :
Criminal Justice System. Victims’ Rights. Parole. Constitutional Amendment and Statute.
No.**
Proposition 10 :
Bonds. Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Renewable Energy. Statute.
No. The oil and auto companies can pay for their own R&D out of their windfall profits, thank you very much.
Proposition 11 :
Redistricting. Constitutional Amendment and Statute.
No. Too many axes are a-grinding here.
Proposition 12 :
SB 1572 (Chapter 122, 2008). Wyland.
Veterans' Bond Act of 2008.
Yes. Provides $$ for loans to vets to buy homes and farms.

**Most initiative measures, IMHO, are a Bad Idea™. There is almost always a hidden agenda, and it almost always will cost me more $$ if I vote "yes".
